Saeima extends state of emergency in Latvian-Belarusian border area

(16.02.2023.)

On Thursday, February 16, the Saeima supported the government’s decision to extend the state of emergency in the Latvia-Belarusian border area, i.e., the state of emergency in Ludza, Krāslava, Augšdaugava, and Daugavpils is extended until 10 May 2023.

The state of emergency was declared in August 2021, taking into account the rapid increase in the number of illegal crossings of the Latvian-Belarus State border, as well as considering the large number of illegal crossings of the Lithuanian-Belarus border previously recorded in Lithuania.
