On Friday, 6 February, the Presidium of the Baltic Assembly adopted a statement in Vilnius on strong support for Ukraine, its sovereignty, and its territorial integrity, highlighting that Russia’s ongoing war of aggression against Ukraine continues to pose a serious threat to European security.
In the statement, the Baltic parliamentarians underline the importance of sustained European unity in supporting Ukraine and in efforts to bring Russia’s aggression to an end. A coherent European approach is essential to maintaining security and upholding Europe’s core principles.
MPs emphasise that meaningful negotiations cannot take place while Russian missile and drone attacks against Ukraine continue. Therefore, a comprehensive and verifiable ceasefire is a necessary pre-condition for any credible peace negotiations, the statement reads.
The parliamentarians also note that any peace process must be conducted in accordance with international law and with Ukraine’s full consent.
