On Tuesday, 3 December, the Saeima’s hockey team lost 5-6 to the State Police team in a tense and dynamic friendly match.

At the end of the regulation time, the score was still tied at 3-3, and in the shootout the team of the Saeima gave victory to the State Police as a gift on its birthday. The match was held on the initiative of the State Police to mark its 95th anniversary celebrated on 5 December.

Both teams and fans observed a moment of silence in memory of the victims of the Zolitūde tragedy prior to the game.

The friendly match was opened by Solvita Āboltiņa, Speaker of the Saeima, and Ints Ķuzis, Chief of the State Police.

At the end of the game, Āboltiņa awarded the Speaker’s Certificates of Merit and small cups to the best forward Ruslans Obrosovs (State Police), best defenceman Gaidis Bērziņš (Saeima), most valuable player Imants Parādnieks (Saeima) and best goaltender Jānis Auziņš (State Police).

The Saeima team consisted of captain MP Imants Parādnieks (National Alliance of All for Latvia! and For Fatherland and Freedom/LNNK), MPs Gaidis Bērziņš (National Alliance of All for Latvia! and For Fatherland and Freedom/LNNK), Jānis Dombrava (National Alliance of All for Latvia! and For Fatherland and Freedom/LNNK), Andrejs Elksniņš (Concord Centre), Romāns Naudiņš (National Alliance of All for Latvia! and For Fatherland and Freedom/LNNK), Dzintars Rasnačs (National Alliance of All for Latvia! and For Fatherland and Freedom/LNNK), Raimonds Rubiks (Concord Centre) and Viktors Valainis (unaffiliated MP), as well as relatives of MPs and staff members of the Saeima. The coach of the Saeima team was Ainars Latkovskis, Chairman of the Defence, Internal Affairs and Corruption Prevention Committee.

The team of the State Police featured Rihards Kozlovskis, Minister for the Interior, high-ranking officers, experts and inspectors. The coach of this team was Ints Ķuzis, Chief of the State Police.

Both teams attracted a large number of supporters.
