Christmas greetings from Solvita Āboltiņa, Speaker of the Saeima, to the people of Latvia

(19.12.2010.)

Christmas is a season of peace, love and serene joyfulness. It has a special magic – while nature sinks into darkness, we are able to find light within ourselves. We light candles and prepare gifts for our loved ones. We know that it does not take much to make the holiday season a lot brighter.

Christmas is a time when we give without expecting to receive something in return. We are as rich as great is our desire to give belief, hope and love.

This year I wish much cheerfulness to everybody. I wish everybody true joyfulness in the eyes of their children as they unwrap gifts put by Santa Claus under the decorated Christmas tree. I wish everybody calm and wise joyfulness in the eyes of their parents as all the family gathers around the festive table. I wish everybody genuine joyfulness in the eyes of their friends during the Christmas party as you reminisce about your common experiences. Shared joy is a double joy.

I also wish you a dream – a true and real dream, an adventurous and inspiring dream, a dream that gives you strength and self-confidence, a dream that urges you not to give up because it will come true.

I wish you a merry Christmas sparkling with kindness and love!
