Saeima supports extending state of emergency in Latvia-Belarus border area

(11.05.2023.)

On Thursday, 11 May, the Saeima supported the government’s decision to extend the state of emergency in the Latvian-Belarusian border area.

The state of emergency is extended in Ludza, Krāslava and Augšaugava municipalities, as well as in Daugavpils until 10 August 2023.

The state of emergency was declared in August 2021, taking into account the rapid increase in the number of illegal crossings of the Latvian- Belarusian border, as well as due to the large number of illegal crossings of the Lithuanian- Belarusian border previously recorded in Lithuania.
