Presidium of the 13th Saeima elected

On Tuesday, 6 November, the new convocation of the parliament elected the Presidium of the 13th Saeima.

In an open ballot by ballot papers Ināra Mūrniece, representing the National Alliance “All For Latvia!” – “For Fatherland and Freedom/LNNK”, was elected as the Speaker of the 13th Saeima, with 44 MPs voting in favour and 32 – against.

In turn, Dagmāra Beitnere-Le Galla of the New Conservative Party was elected as Deputy Speaker with 65 votes in favour and 34 against.

Inese Lībiņa-Egnere of the New Unity was also elected as Deputy Speaker with 65 votes in favour and 31 against. 

Andrejs Klementjevs of Social Democratic Party Concord was elected as Secretary of the Saeima with 55 votes in favour and 32 against.

Marija Golubeva of party alliance For Development/For! was elected as Deputy Secretary with 64 votes in favour and 34 against.

Overall, the 13th convocation of the Saeima consists of 23 MPs from Social Democratic Party Concord, 16 MPs from Political Party “KPV LV” (Who Owns the State of Latvia?), 16 MPs from the New Conservative Party, 13 MPs from party alliance “For Development/For!”, 13 MPs from the National Alliance “All For Latvia!” – “For Fatherland and Freedom/LNNK”, 11 MPs from the Union of Greens and Farmers, and 8 MPs from party alliance “The New Unity”.

The Presidium of the Saeima consists of the Speaker of the Saeima, two Deputy Speakers, the Secretary and Deputy Secretary. The members of the Presidium determine the internal rules and working procedures of the Saeima, issue opinions and, based on the Rules of Procedure of the Saeima, process or forward relevant matters, determine the agenda for plenary sittings, meet with foreign officials and perform various other duties.
