Ināra Mūrniece to open the EU-US Transatlantic Legislators’ Dialogue meeting

On Saturday, 27 June, Ināra Mūrniece, Speaker of the Saeima, will open the 76th EU-US Transatlantic Legislators’ Dialogue (TLD) meeting at the Saeima. 

The meeting will be attended by 30 members of the European Parliament and the U.S. Congress, and it will address issues such as promoting growth and jobs through the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership, cooperating on energy security, as well as reinforcing security and defence cooperation. 

During the meeting it is planned that co-chairs of the meeting – Congressman Mario Diaz-Balart and MEP David McAllister – will sign a Joint Statement. 

In the framework of the meeting, members of the U.S. Congress and the European Parliament will also visit Ādaži military base. 

Interparliamentary relations between the European Parliament and the U.S. Congress were established in 1972, and representatives of both sides meet twice a year both in Europe and the U.S. Meetings which are held in Europe are usually hosted by the country presiding over the Council of the European Union. 

The 76th EU-US TLD meeting will be held on 27 – 28 June. The meeting will be opened on Saturday, 27 June, at 15:30 in the Red Room of the main building of the Saeima at Jēkaba iela 11.
